May 29, 2015: On May 19, there were plenty of high-fives, fist pumps and "boo yahs" as a group of athletes got stoked for an hour on the New Trier High School indoor track. May 13, 2015: On May 3, 12 Gator athletes of the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association achieved the accomplishment of qualifying for the Special Olympics Illinois State games later this summer. April 24, 2015: Following being surprised with a personalized jersey and letter from Patrick Kane, Travis Tassone got his biggest surprise yet – meeting his hero in person. Back in the beginning of March, Tassone, a Glenview resident, was surprised with a Patrick Kane jersey personalized with his last name and signed by Kane, as well as a letter written to him, through Our Place, a Wilmette organization for adults with disabilities. March 3, 2015: Leisure in Full Effect, a new year-round adult day program that provides recreation and community services for North Shore residents with disabilities, is heading to the Glencoe Park District’s Takiff Center. The program is being offered by the Northbrook-based Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association, an organization that extends the recreation and social services of the 13 North Shore community park districts and recreation departments who partner with them. February 28, 2015: This past week marked the start of a beautiful friendship. February 25, 2015: To make its programming available to a wider audience, the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association is on the verge of opening a second area location, this one in Glencoe. On Feb. 17 the Glencoe Park District unanimously agreed to enter into an "interagency cooperation agreement” with the Northbrook based-NSSRA to offer programming at the Park District's Takiff Center headquarters, which was the top target of the special services agency due to a combination of the center's amenities and location, officials said.
