Safety Principles
NSSRA is committed to continually improving safety.
Participants and families deserve the peace of mind that, when they attend NSSRA programs or use our services, they are in a safe environment. It is our responsibility to ensure that the safety of our participants and staff is our number one priority.
There are four baselines that guide NSSRA’s safety philosophy: Recognize, React, Report and Review.
These were selected to assist in creating NSSRA’s safety culture. The baselines outline the action steps we expect from employees and volunteers at work, in the community, at play and at home. Our hope is that by following these guiding principles, our safety awareness will continually be elevated and the frequency of accidents and incidents will be reduced.
The Four Baselines Of Safety
Recognize
- Awareness of safety hazards

- Respond with necessary action

- Ongoing skill development
- Make necessary changes
- Debrief the situation
Safety Sluggers
Catch someone being safe! NSSRA’s Safety Committee recognizes our staff and volunteers for their safety efforts at each Seasonal Program Meeting. Nominate a Safety Slugger by telling us how they hit the four baselines of safety (Recognize, React, Report and Review).
NSSRA values the importance of ensuring all our programs are safe for our participants and employees. NSSRA’s Safety Committee reviews all accidents and determines proper solutions and procedures for our safety practices. The committee developed these principles for all NSSRA staff to responsibly implement and monitor.
To let us know how we are doing, please contact NSSRA Safety Coordinator Meggan Davies at (847) 509-9400 x6828 or mdavies@nssra.org.
