A New Home for NSSRA

January 17, 2018

Dear NSSRA Families, Staff and Community,

We have exciting news! NSSRA and Northbrook Park District (NPD) are exploring a partnership towards accomplishing NSSRA’s long-time goal to secure a suitable, permanent location with a partner agency, as outlined in our 2013 Capital & Facility Acquisition Plan (CFAP). The new building will enhance our current programming, incorporate multipurpose meeting spaces, and house NSSRA’s administrative offices.

NPD is moving forward to build an Activity Center at Techny Prairie Park and Fields on the six-acre parcel the District purchased in 2011. The Activity Center is part of the District’s multi-year 2018-2022: New Places to Play initiative which focuses on three major capital projects. The new space addresses NPD’s priorities for investment and also presents a key shared space opportunity for NSSRA.

As many of you know, NSSRA has been searching for a new home for a number of years. As stated in our CFAP, we have been searching for an existing facility or building opportunity that meets the following criteria:

  • Preferably located with one of the 13 partner agencies in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
  • Address the substantial needs of additional space for programming, private meeting space, safety issues, adequate space to conduct business and centralize training.
  • Continue NSSRA’s model to secure the majority of programming space in its partner agencies’ facilities.

Not only does this partnership with NPD meet each of the key points listed, but it also brings the opportunity to design a new space customized specifically for NSSRA participants.

An ideal location, Techny Prairie Park and Fields is NPD’s largest park and provides access to several softball fields, playgrounds, golf course and nature trails, as well as easy access to Meadowhill Park. Most importantly, it will create a much safer drop off/pick up location for participants and families.

We are in the preliminary stages and will keep you updated as the process unfolds.
