Kam Gottlieb is a senior at New Trier High School planning to attend the University of Denver. She is one of the organizers of Sweat Fest, which is a fundraising event for the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association on Saturday, April 27, scheduled to run at Kenilworth Assembly Hall, 410 Kenilworth Avenue in Kenilworth from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Representatives from nine different local high schools participated in the planning of the Sweat Fest, which is scheduled to be highlighted by three fitness sessions followed by music.

Q: What will people see at Sweat Fest?

A: It is an event for the entire community to sweat together to bring us closer and it will be followed by a live concert by Molehill, which will be super fun.

Q: What was the inspiration for Sweat Fest?

A: I think the main inspiration was taking the values from The Sweat Set Project, which is the name of our club and then NSSRA to create an event to support NSSRA and be fun for the whole community to get together.

Q: How did it mix together working with people from all different high schools?

A: It was awesome meeting people who I normally would not have been able to meet from different high schools. We had monthly meetings where we came and discussed (things). We have been working since this past summer to plan this event, we broke it into steps, and we built off of that. We also had team sweats where we would meet as a club at various workout studios just to bring us closer. So, we could work together more effectively in planning our project, which was fantastic.

Q: Why did you want to support the NSSRA?

A: Personally, I have worked with students with special needs at my high school, so sharing the mission of NSSRA brought me in closer to the cause, because that has been something I’ve wanted to incorporate. Having it be so local, we felt like we could make a large impact and be connected to the program instead of donating money to a large national organization where we wouldn’t necessarily see the effects.

Q: What do you think people will enjoy the most about Sweat Fest?

A: I think it will be a really bright event. Everyone will be having fun and getting to know each other. With people from multiple high schools around the area, we hope to bring people from each of these smaller communities together into our larger North Shore community. It should be an awesome event overall.
