NSSRA honors its ‘Shining Stars’ | Northbrook Star

The Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association honored 10 people as “Outstanding Members” of the extended family at its “Shining Stars Banquet.”
Over 350 participants, family members, staff, board members, trustees and partners gathered at the Northbrook Hilton for the recent festivities and awards.
Guests included State Rep. Scott Drury (D-58) and Northwestern University Wildcat’s Senior Wide Receiver Rashad Lawrence,
Ten awards were given, including: Friend of the Year: Andy & FaithPolovin, Deerfield; Friend of the Year: Kenilworth United Fund; Volunteer of the Year: Anne Truman, Winnetka; Partner Agency of the Year: Deerfield Park District; Advocate of the Year: Equestrian Connection of Lake Forest; Family of the Year: Thissen Family, Glenview; Program Staff of the Year: Gail Freeman, Des Plaines; Youth Participant of the Year: Peter Grzeslo, Glenview; Gator Athlete of the Year: David Jonaitis, Wilmette; Adult Participant of the Year: Jamie Schuman, Highland Park.
The Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association, founded 1970, provides and facilitates year-round recreation programs and services for children and adults with disabilities who live in its many partner communities on the North Shore.
