Glenview – August 4, 2016 – Campers and staff at the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) Awesome Post Camp youth site received a surprise visit Friday, July 29 from four Illinois legislators.

State Senators Daniel Biss (District 9) and Julie Morrison (District 29) along with State Representatives Elaine Nekritz (District 57) and Robyn Gabel (District 18) joined campers at Willow Park Fieldhouse in Glenview for an early afternoon of playing games and making brownies.

Awesome Post Camp is a four-week end-of-summer camp for youth and teens with disabilities, and is designed to provide an extended summer experience through a variety of recreation activities. The day camp has grown over the years from one week of programming at one location serving ten participants to now serving 81 participants at two sites for four weeks during July and August.

Depending on the day’s schedule, NSSRA staff facilitates sports, swimming, arts, crafts, field trips and outdoor activities with campers. Senators Biss and Morrison and Representatives Nekritz and Gabel spent an hour with campers and staff, learning about their successes and challenges and participating in camp activities.
