NSSRA Celebrates Outstanding Achievements at the Shining Stars Awards & Recognition Banquet

Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA), a leader in providing year-round recreational programming for people with disabilities, brought the community together for a heartfelt night of celebration at its annual Shining Stars Awards & Recognition Banquet. More than 430 participants, family members, staff, board members, supporters, and partners gathered at Pinstripes in Northbrook to honor the individuals who make NSSRA’s inclusive mission possible.

Serving residents of 13 northern suburban communities, NSSRA creates accessible opportunities for children, teens, and adults with disabilities to engage in everything from social programs and athletics to arts, camps, and travel experiences. The Shining Stars Banquet is a celebration that recognizes the remarkable individuals and families, dedicated staff and volunteers, and valued advocates and community partners who have made a lasting impact over the past year.

“Our participants are extraordinary individuals, and the most important reason we gather each year,” said Craig Culp, NSSRA’s Executive Director. “This was our largest banquet to date, and it was incredible to see such strong support and energy in the room. Whether receiving an award or cheering someone on, every person here is part of what makes this community so special.”

Throughout the evening, the audience shared joy, laughter, and heartfelt applause as NSSRA honored those who exemplify the spirit of inclusion and community. From dedicated volunteers to inspiring participants, the 2024 Shining Stars honorees were celebrated for their remarkable contributions and are recognized below for their lasting impact.
